Red Bud notched another win, this time on the road against the always tough Cougars from Breese Central.
The game began with both teams battling to a scoreless stalemate during the first quarter. The Musketeer defense has been much improved going back to the second half of the Freeburg game last week. The team seems to have gelled defensively and found their identity as a unit.
Red Bud got on the board in the second quarter when Austin Melliere broke free for a 27 yard touchdown run up the middle behind the blocking of offensive linemen Brad Muertz and Trenton Fernandez. Sam Carroll split the uprights and Musketeers had a 7-0 lead.
The defense continued to hold as the Cougars were unable to put together anything substantial on offense while the Red Bud offense went back to work. The Musketeers added to the lead near the end of the half on an 18 yard pass play for a touchdown from Griffin Ziebold to senior Robby Oliver. The PAT was good and the score was 14-0 at the half.
