Red Bud moved to 1-1 for the young season with a convincing win against the Wesclin Warriors at home Friday night.
The Musketeers started the scoring early in the first quarter when the team took the kick-off and moved into Wesclin territory. From the 35, Seth Bass broke free and scampered to the endzone for six points. Sam Carroll split the uprights and the Boys were up 7-0.
The Warriors answered back, capping a long drive with a six yard TD pass. Their PAT made it 7-7 to end the first quarter.
The second quarter was largely a defensive battle as both teams were able to stop the opponent’s offense until the Musketeers put together a drive that took them inside the Warrior red zone. With under two minutes to play in the half, Austin Melliere scored on a four yard TD run.Carroll’s kick gave the Boys a 14-7 halftime lead.
After the break, Wesclin went to work to move the ball inside the Musketeers’ red zone and finding pay dirt on a one yard TD dive; the PAT tied the contest at 14 all. Red Bud regained the lead just over one minute later when quarterback Jack Drennan connected with Melliere for a 30 yard TD catch and run. The kick sailed wide, but the Musketeers were ahead 20-14.
