The Red Bud varsity football team improved to 3-0 on the young season with a 35-10 win over Cahokia Conference rival Carlyle Friday night in Red Bud.
The game began with the Musketeers kicking off to the Indians who promptly returned the ball to the Red Bud 6 yard line. The Musketeer defense had not yielded a TD yet this season, but had their work cut out for them on the first drive of the game. The defense held and Carlyle settled for a 22 yard field goal to take an early 3-0 lead.
That was the only time the Indians would lead in the game as Red Bud came roaring back with a drive capped by a 5 yard TD run by power back Frank Ford. Sam Carroll, who was perfect on PAT attempts for the night, made it 7-3. Later in the first quarter, Chase Ward outran the Indian defense for a 26 yard TD scamper to make the score 14-3.
The second quarter saw Red Bud extend their lead with a pair of TD passes from Jayden Birkner to what has become his favorite target, Parker Van Dorn. Birkner was 9 for 13 passing for 201 yards and two touchdowns. The first half ended with the Boys up 28-3.
