Marigold’s 25th annual fish fry was held Sunday

ATTEND ANNUAL FISH FRY–Pictured are some of the attendees at the 25th annual Marigold Fish Fry, held at the home of Mike and Michelle Umbdenstock on Aug. 26. Attending the event, but not pictured were: Armin Depper, John Depper, Sarah, Lainey and Everett Simpson, Shelly, Lucas and Emily Melching and Dave Lochhead.

The 25thannual Marigold Fish Fry was held at the Marigold Community Center on Sunday, Aug. 26. The annual meeting was called to order by Sheriff Mike Umbdenstock. The Sheriff called for a moment of silence for Justin Simpson who has passed since our last meeting. Justin has been a member of the Marigold Community his entire life and will be missed by all.

The next order of business was to reappoint Bill Wiegard as mayor. Bill was out of state during last year’s meeting but has since returned to Illinois. He was unanimously voted in as the acting mayor.

The next order of business was from Road Commissioner Bobby Schmidt. Bobby gave us an update on the road resurfacing project. There have been reports of too much rock spread in some areas and not enough in others. He will try to correct this issue the next time the road is resurfaced. Bobby also discussed the mowing of the road ditches or lack of. He stated we have discussed this issue since the very first community meeting 25 years ago, so why start mowing them this year? At least it “keeps you on your toes” while passing through Marigold.

Fire Chief Brandon Bush was absent from the meeting, so we elected a new fire chief for 2018-2019. Mike Eichenseer was nominated by the sheriff and seconded by the Zoo Keeper Dave Eichenseer. Mike stated the Razor Utility Vehicle that Brandon had for the fire truck was destroyed in a roll-over accident. Mike said he had a new spray tank installed on his gator that would work great for the new fire truck. Lola Depper also agreed to use her gator as a “back up” pumper truck.
