Local wrestler wins Trinity Belt award

Grayden Schloemann

A tiny wrestler in the area made some big waves by winning a big award.

Grayden Schloemann, 5, of Evansville, recently won the very prestigious Trinity Belt award.

This award is presented by the Illinois Kids Wrestling Federation (IKWF) to wrestlers that take first place finishes at three specific tournaments held in southern Illinois in the 2018-19 wrestling season.

Those tournaments were: the Granite City Kids Holiday Classic on Dec. 30, the O’Fallon Panther Pummel on Feb. 9 and the Belleville Little Devils tournament on Feb. 16. More than 600 wrestlers from around 60 wrestling clubs competed for this honor.

And to make it more difficult, at all three of these tournaments, competing were the top wrestlers from both Missouri and Illinois.

Only six wrestlers earned the honor of winning in their respective classes at all three tournaments, thus winning the Trinity Belt. The belt awards will be presented at the IKWF sectional tournament to be held this weekend in Highland.
