Local veterans presented with Quilts of Valor last Saturday

QUILTS OF VALOR–Members of the Stitch on Quilting Guild of Prairie du Rocher presented 10 veterans at Garden Place in Red Bud with Quilts of Valor on Nov. 10. The honored veterans are: in front: Walter Rowold, Marvin Rosenberg, Loyd Roscow, Bob Remick, Vernon Muench and Delbert Moll; in back: Virgil Kempfer, Boniface Becker, Calvin Harwell and Freeman Greer.

Garden Place in Red Bud is currently home to 10 area veterans. A special ceremony to honor all 10 of these men was held on Saturday, Nov. 10.

Jane Peiffer with the Stitch on Quilting Guild of Prairie du Rocher thanked all for coming and thanked the men for their service.

She noted that the quilting guild formed 13 years ago and have produced over 300 quilts to give away to various organizations so that the organizations can raise money. “We enjoy our task and laugh a lot.”

This past summer, guild member Betty Gross put together a Quilt of Valor to give to Delbert Moll.

Quilts of Valor is an organization that was started in 2003 with the goal to give quilts to veterans as a way to thank them for their service and to give them comfort. There are specific requirements to be considered a Quilt of Valor.

All are patriotic,” Peiffer stated. “They are special and quilted with love.”

The guild decided they wanted to honor these men and began working on the quilts in August.
