Local fire departments have several calls over the past week

COMPLETE LOSS–Carl Gross shared this picture taken of the June 12 barn fire on the farm property he shares with his brother Tom Gross. Four local fire departments responded to the fire.

Local fire departments have been busy lately with several fire calls.

On June 12, the Evansville Fire Department received a call around 7:30 p.m. of a barn fire at the Carl Gross and Tom Gross farm property on Paul Drive.

Darren Kempfer, with the Evansville Fire Department, noted that providing mutual aide at the fire were the Red Bud, Sparta and Ellis Grove Fire Departments.

Carl Gross told the North County News that Kurt Cowell had parked his grain truck in the machine shed at their farm and the truck caught fire. Despite the best efforts of the fire departments, who were on scene battling the blaze for several hours, both the barn and truck were deemed a complete loss.

Gross added that unfortunately, along with the truck, Cowell lost several pieces of large equipment that were also stored in the barn. This included a 1,000 bushel grain cart, a seed tender, an implement trailer, a ripper and a snowblower.

Thankfully, no one was injured in the fire.
