Lions in 30th year of honoring students

STUDENT OF THE MONTH–Named as the September Student of the Month at Red Bud High School was Nathan Cross. He is pictured with his nominating teachers Jared Piel, at left, and Brett Wilson, at right, as well as Red Bud Lions Club member Larry Mehring, second from right. This is the 30th year that the Red Bud Lions Club has sponsored the Student of the Month/Year program at Red Bud High School. The plaques recognizing all that have received this honor are pictured on the wall behind the group.

Thirty years ago, Red Bud Lions Club member Bob Doty had a vision for the club to sponsor a student of the month at Red Bud High School.

Each month, a selected student would receive a $50 award and be recognized on a plaque at the school. At the end of the year, a student of the year would be selected and receive a $250 award.

The first student to be honored 30 years ago as the Student of the Month at Red Bud High School was Erica Miller. Recognized as the first Student of the Year was Linda Napier.

The first Student of the Month to be recognized for the 30th year of the program, who is also the 262nd student to be honored by the Lions Club, is Nathan Cross.
