Light parade and tree lighting held, Santa’s Sleigh Ride is next week

CHRISTMAS TIME IN RED BUD–With the good weather last Friday night, quite a crowd came out for the annual lighted parade and community tree lighting in Red Bud. Pictured is an aerial view of Santa’s Village during the tree lighting ceremony. For more pictures from the parade and tree lighting, please see this week’s print edition.

After being rescheduled due to less than ideal weather, there was perfect weather last Friday night for both the lighted parade and community tree lighting in Red Bud.

While there were less entries in this year’s lighted parade, there were still some wonderful, creative floats. Taking the honors of top float was the nativity scene entry by Red Bud Industries. Monroe County Electric Co-Operative’s “lighted linemen” float took second, and Red Bud Regional Hospital’s “Toy Story” themed float was third.

Following the parade, quite a crowd gathered in Santa’s Village, in the park behind city hall, to watch as Santa and honored guest Chas Walster, an ambassador for Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital, lit the tree. (An aerial video of the lighting ceremony can be viewed on theNorth County News’ Facebook page.)

Santa then met with children that evening at the village. Santa’s Village will be open again on Friday, Dec. 13 and Dec. 20 from 6-8 p.m. so children can visit with Santa, as well as enjoy a variety of activities.

The Red Bud Chamber of Commerce will be running one more trolley to view the entries in the holiday decorated porch contest this Friday night at 6 p.m. They note that the trip takes a little over an hour. The Chamber also recommends that trolley ride participants dress warm and bring a blanket.
