St. John the Baptist Parish Family in Red Bud will join Catholic parishes across the country in celebrating Catechetical Sunday this weekend, Sept. 19-20. This annual event focuses on the importance of the formal teaching ministry in the Catholic church.
The theme of this year’s celebration is “I received from the Lord what I also handed on to you,” which is found in St. Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians 11:23.
This theme focuses on the essential work of catechesis, which is an invitation to a whole new life given by Christ Himself. It emphasizes that living faith necessitates movement, inspiring all those who hear the Word to share it as witnesses of the true and living God.
Again, this celebration is a wonderful opportunity to help parents also see how vital their role is as primary catechists of their children, teaching by their example of what it means to stay close to Christ. Together with the teachers in school and in the Parish School of Religion classes, all are called to teach the value of our life in Christ.
