Holiday festivities continue with several local events this weekend

SANTA’S ARRIVAL IN ROCHER–Santa made his grand arrival in Prairie du Rocher last Saturday night, riding on a fire truck in the La Petitie Lumiere Toy Parade. Families can catch Santa again this Friday night as he’ll be in the Red Bud Lighted Parade and lighting the tree at Santa’s Village; then he’ll be back in Prairie du Rocher on Sunday for La Fete de Noel.

Due to the bad weather last Friday night, the Red Bud Chamber of Commerce made the decision to reschedule their lighted parade to this Friday, Dec. 6.

Chamber President Twyla Schulte noted that it was a very difficult decision to make and that the Chamber’s board of directors consulted with National Weather Service officials before deciding.

In addition to the lighted parade being rescheduled, the Red Bud Community Tree Lighting ceremony will also be moved to this Friday evening. The parade will take place this Friday, rain or shine.

Please note there is a new time for the parade. Line up for the floats will start at 5 p.m. by St. John’s Lutheran School and the parade will kick off at 6:30 p.m. The parade will go down South Main Street to the square where it will turn onto East Market Street towards city hall.

The lighting of the Community Christmas Tree in Santa’s Village, located in the city hall park, will follow the parade. And Santa will visit with children.

In addition, starting at 7:30 p.m., the Chamber will have trolleys available to view the participating porches in their holiday decorated lighted porch contest. As they are open air trolleys, it is recommended that participants bring a blanket for the trip.
