From March 20 through March 24, Janel and Norb Kassing of Red Bud played host to a special international guest.
Janel is a member of the Randolph County Home and Community Education (HCE) and was one of eight regional hosts from the Illinois Association for Home and Community Education (IAHCE) for their Australian guest in the International Homemaker Exchange program.
Participating in the exchange was Sara Kenny of Badgingarra, Western Australia. Badgingarra is a small community approximately 150 miles north of Perth, the capital of Western Australia.
She is a member of the Country Women’s Association of Western Australia (CWA of WA), which, like the IAHCE, is a subgroup of the Associated Country Women of the World (ACWW). She is a past president of the CWA of WA and is currently their state international coordinator.
Each year there is a meeting for the ACWW and next year it will be held in Melbourne, Australia. So the IAHCE decided to have their exchange participant this year from Australia so they can learn about the country.
Kenny applied to be the exchange participant and was selected. She arrived at O’Hare Airport in Chicago on March 4 and her various hosts showed her around the state until her departure on March 29.
