A very improved girls’ cross country team raced its way to a coveted IHSA Sectional qualifying ticket at Saturday’s regional competition at Smithton Community Park.
The Smithton course, where host Freeburg conducts its home meets, has a reputation for being “fast.” It is mostly flat and follows the park’s paved hiking/biking trails. Red Bud runners took advantage of the course and Saturday’s cooler temperatures.
The Musketeers avenged last week’s loss of the conference title to New Athens, nipping the Yellow Jackets by a scant three points.
