Fishing team places at state competition

THIRD PLACE TEAM–The Red Bud Musketeer Fishing high school team of Gavin Christiansen and Briar Langley took third place overall in the recent Illinois State Championship.

The Red Bud Musketeer and Royal Bass Club, in their first year as a member of the National Youth Fishing Association, had one team qualify for the Illinois State championship.

The championship tournament was held on Lake Kinkaid on June 22.

Qualifying to participate was the high school team of Gavin Christiansen and Briar Langley.

The junior high team of Ethan Mudd and Jackson Trujillo came up just short in points of qualifying.

Teams were held up for an hour on their take-offs due to lighting, heavy rain and high winds that day.

However, the Red Bud team had a very productive day of fishing and were culling 16 inch fish at the end. Their final weigh in was 11.66 pounds total, putting them in third place in the high school division.
