Evansville trustees disagree on proposed employee pay raise

Employee pay raises, set to begin on May 1, were a big topic of discussion at the April 9 Evansville Village Board meeting.

At their March meeting, the board had discussed giving the village employees a full dollar raise, as well as increasing the weekend rate $25. This raise would affect the two full time employees Jim Braun and Ed Braun, Village Clerk Bethany Wunderlich and the seasonal employee Roy Ford.

Board members approved of the idea and decided to formally approve at their April meeting.

Monday night though, the board took further into consideration the village’s financial situation. The meeting started with board members going over a spreadsheet of the village finances. It was noted that the water and sewer account is still not generating enough to have a positive balance.

Trustee Nancy Schilling noted that they raised the water rates in 2014 and the sewer rates last year, but they still have not been raised enough.

We need to look at this real seriously,” Trustee Joe Krack said, pointing out that the rising cost of chemicals, as well as the proposed pay increase for village employees, will not help the situation.
