Plans for recodification work and the village’s five year plan were discussed at the Evansville Village Board meeting on Monday night.
Village President Erwin “Red” Becker was still recovering from a recent surgery and was not in attendance at the meeting, so Trustee Nancy Schilling filled in as president pro tem that evening.
Over much of the past year, the village has been trying to get their codes, particularly those for zoning, updated. They hired Frank Heilgenstein of Illinois Codification Services to assist them in this task.
The trustees were presented with a book of proposed changes. Schilling noted that this book covered all village codes, not just zoning.
Both she and Zoning Administrator Mark McConachie commented on the size of the book and how much time will be needed for the project. “It’s not a project to be done overnight,” Schilling commented.
McConachie said that while he can offer suggestions, he feels that all of the board members should be involved. He suggested that the board set up committees to take on different parts of the codes and go through it in sections, presenting their suggestions at meetings.
