Evansville man fatally injured in car accident

A car accident involving a deer last week resulted in the death of an Evansville man.

According to the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, on Jan. 18 at 6:05 p.m., Jonathan Hohgrefe, 46, of Chester was driving south on State Route 3 in a 2015 Ford Fusion. Just northwest of Chester, Hohgrefe struck a deer in the roadway.

The impact caused the deer to go airborne and strike a 2015 Chevrolet Equinox driven by Keith F. Wolter, 38, of Evansville. The deer went through Wolter’s windshield.

Wolter was declared deceased at the scene upon the arrival of first responders.

Hohgrefe was listed in the accident report as uninjured.
