Red Bud had its one game winning streak snapped last week with a loss to Cahokia Conference powerhouse Columbia.
The game started poorly for the Musketeers, but the team was able to keep up with the Eagles despite some bad breaks. The Boys were unable to take advantage of a scoring opportunity in the first quarter and gave up a touchdown on a 17 yard run early in the game to spot the Eagles to a 7-0 lead.
The defense played well, especially during the first half, showing a new look three man defensive front that was able to corral the potent Columbia offense. The bend-but-don’t-break plan yielded just a field goal during the second quarter giving the Eagles a 10-0 lead at the half.
“I think we threw them a little with the new look on defense. We haven’t run that particular set for awhile. Even though we had a rough start, we played with them that first half, it could’ve been much worse,” Red Bud Head Coach Dave Lucht commented after the game.
