Next week marks the opening of the 2018/19 boys basketball season beginning with the Trico tournament.
“We lost seven seniors and eight of our top nine players from last year,” said Head Coach CJ Cruser.
“Lost all five starters from last year when everyone was healthy. We will be inexperienced, but these guys all had a full summer with me that last year’s group did not have,” he said.
“As coaches, we have to adapt to our player’s strengths from year to year. Our strengths this year goes away from my traditional likes as a coach. I will be adapting to our player’s strengths a lot more this season. At times, it may get rough, but along the way I will try and put a stamp on this year’s team with some of our core beliefs that I know we will need to have to win games late in the year.
We will be a much different looking team this year than my teams in the past. Our experience that we do have back is perimeter oriented. Without a true back to the bucket presence ready to go at the varsity level, at this point, our buckets may have to come from the perimeter. With this in mind, we still have to work at finding easy baskets in either the transition game or getting to the basket. We have the potential to be deep, but I am hoping guys will distance themselves and shrink our rotation into a more manageable rotation that guys can get comfortable in.
