Attempted robbery at Red Bud Casey’s

Mitchell Lee Johnson

A man from Festus, MO was arrested in Red Bud last Friday, Aug. 2 after he attempted to rob the Casey’s General Store.

According to police reports, Mitchell Lee Johnson, 30, entered the gas station just before 4 p.m. and asked the clerk to cash a check. He then handed the clerk a note stating, “Hand over all the money that you have or else everyone gets hurt. Draw no attention!”

The clerk told Johnson no. Johnson then reportedly attempted to reach behind the counter into the open cash register, but the clerk shut the drawer and again said no.

Johnson then left and the store employees called 911.

Red Bud Officers Tyler Cleland and Carl Williams were dispatched to the Dairy Queen, as Johnson had headed there after he left the Casey’s. The two searched the premises, but were advised Johnson had went to Dollar General.
