Annual Rally on the River a success

GRAND MARSHAL–This year’s Rally on the River grand marshal was Zach Buchheit. He is pictured waving to the crowd while his father Tyler Buchheit, at left, and event organizer Mark McConachie, at right, look on.

Mark McConachie, one of the organizers for the Rally on the River, is very happy to announce that they met their fundraising goal for this year’s event.

Held by the Evansville Knights of Columbus, Rally on the River is a benefit event for Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital. This year’s rally was held on Saturday, May 26.

Since the rally started in 2014, the Knights have raised over $52,000 for Cardinal Glennon. Last year’s rally raised over $17,000 so this year’s goal was to raise $20,000.

McConachie told the North County News early this week that the “rally was awesome and we will be writing them (Cardinal Glennon) a check for $20,000 sometime in the next week.”

One of the features of the rally is the veterans salute and program which kicks off the event each year. This program recognizes the Memorial Day holiday and honors local veterans.

Featured speakers in this year’s program were: Father Larry Lemay of St. Boniface Church, Col. Brian Sizemore of the United States Army Corps of Engineers in St. Louis, Colleen Dolnick with Cardinal Glennon, Evansville Village President Erwin “Red” Becker and Rally Grand Marshal Zach Buchheit.
